This is a two-hour online course designed to help staff and managers understand what whistleblowing is, the rights and protections available to whistleblowers under UK law, and how to handle disclosures appropriately. Learners will explore real-life case studies illustrating both good and poor organisational responses to whistleblowing, helping them recognise the importance of fostering a culture of openness and integrity.

Overview

By the end of the course, learners will:

  • Understand the concept of whistleblowing and its importance in promoting transparency, accountability, and ethical behaviour in the workplace.
  • Identify the key legislation governing whistleblowing in the UK, including the Public Interest Disclosure Act 1998 (PIDA).
  • Recognise the types of wrongdoing or malpractice that may warrant protected disclosure.
  • Explain the rights and protections afforded to whistleblowers under UK law.
  • Demonstrate how to report concerns appropriately through internal and external channels.
  • Evaluate organisational responsibilities when creating a safe and supportive environment for whistleblowers.
  • Apply best practice principles when handling whistleblowing concerns to ensure confidentiality, fairness, and non-retaliation.

Assesment

The online assessment is taken on completion of the training material. You will be asked 20 multiple choice questions with a pass mark of 100%. The answers are marked automatically so you will instantly know whether you have passed. If you don’t pass don’t worry! You can take the test as many times as you need with no extra charge.
