Prevent Duty Training

Prevent is one of the four core elements of the UK’s counter-terrorism strategy, and its purpose is to stop people from becoming terrorists or supporting extremist ideologies. It is a safeguarding duty rather than a criminal justice function, focusing on early intervention to protect individuals who may be vulnerable to radicalisation. Prevent aims to identify people at risk before any criminal activity takes place, offering help, support, and guidance that can reduce vulnerability to extremist influence.

Overview

By the end of the course, learners will:

• Understand the purpose and principles of the Prevent Duty within the UK counter-terrorism framework.
• Identify the signs, indicators, and risk factors that may suggest an individual is vulnerable to radicalisation.
• Gain knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015.
• Develop confidence in identifying concerns and knowing when and how to make a Prevent or Channel referral.
• Apply safeguarding best practice to support individuals at risk while maintaining a proportionate and respectful approach.
• Promote a safe, inclusive environment where extremist influences are identified early and addressed appropriately.

Learning Aims & Outcome

This can include a variety of tasks, such as:

• Provide learners with a thorough understanding of the Prevent Duty and its role within the UK’s safeguarding and counter-terrorism strategy.
• Develop awareness about how radicalisation occurs and the factors that increase vulnerability.
• Equip professionals with the skills and confidence they need to recognise concerns and respond appropriately.
• Strengthen multi-agency working by ensuring learners understand referral pathways and partnership responsibilities.

Online 2 - 3 Hours

Assesment

The online assessment is taken on completion of the training material. You will be asked 20 multiple choice questions with a pass mark of 100%. The answers are marked automatically so you will instantly know whether you have passed. If you don’t pass don’t worry! You can take the test as many times as you need with no extra charge.
