Course Content and Learning Outcomes

  • Explain why PUWER guarding, interlocking and local exhaust ventilation must precede personal protective equipment in any manufacturing control decision.
  • Identify who is owed PPE free of charge in a manufacturing workforce, including limb (b) workers brought into scope by the 2022 amendment.
  • Select eye, face and hearing protection for a stated machining, welding or process task using impact grades, filter shade numbers and measured noise data.
  • Apply attenuation data and real-world derating to a hearing protection decision, and evaluate the risk of over-protection.
  • Distinguish the hand, foot, body and skin protection needed for cut, abrasion, puncture, heat, molten metal, chemical and static hazards, including where gloves must not be worn.
  • Justify a respiratory protective equipment specification for welding fume, metalworking fluid mist, wood dust or flour dust, including face fit testing and facial hair control.
  • Evaluate the storage, cleaning and laundering controls that stop process contamination leaving the site on clothing.
  • Apply PPE management duties to shift handover, agency and temporary workers, and night-shift supervision.

Duration and Delivery

The course is offered online and can be completed in nearly 2 to 3 hours. Its short, flexible structure makes it appropriate for staff training without substantial distraction to daily activities. Assessment and Completion
